What are porcelain veneers?
A question we often hear after someone sees their new veneers for the first time: Why didn’t I schedule the procedure sooner?
Maybe you have gaps, chips, misshapen, or discolored teeth. Veneers are an esthetically appealing way to fill the gaps and change your smile. Think of veneers as thin yet durable coverings placed over the teeth. The custom fit and color gives veneers a natural look that truly transforms your smile. And because porcelain veneers are the most stain resistant option, they can help keep your smile even brighter.
Although veneers are designed to be stain resistant, it’s still important to take precautions. Tar from cigarettes can stain veneers over time, as can dark foods and drinks. It’s important to take good care of your veneers to keep them looking great. It’s also a good idea to rinse your mouth with water (or brush your teeth) after eating or drinking red wine, coffee, or cranberry juice to avoid staining caused by the dark pigments. Regular visits with your Flagship Dental dentist will also help keep your veneers in excellent condition.
Not everyone is a candidate for veneers. Active gum disease could preclude someone from choosing veneers. And if there is significant decay, that would need to be brought under control before considering veneers as an option.
