At Flagship Dental, we welcome your entire family, from the youngest members to the most senior. We have the experience to provide outstanding care and we understand the unique needs that come along with every age and stage of life.

Pediatric Dental Care

Family Dentistry Longmeadow MAThe American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children see a dentist by age one or when their first tooth comes in—whichever occurs first. This early check-in allows us to touch base with you and discuss your child’s development as well as details like how to clean these first few teeth.

As your child gets older, we’ll continue to provide care. This will help establish the dentist’s office as a normal, routine place to be. Your child will feel comfortable around us, preventing fear and anxiety from developing. As your child gets older, we’ll demonstrate good brushing technique and address issues like nutrition and habits like thumb-sucking.

We’ll also watch for concerns in the way the teeth and jaw develop and refer to a trusted orthodontist if necessary. Proper occlusion (the way your teeth fit together) is an important part of dental health. Teeth that are misaligned or overlapping are more difficult to keep clean and are at a higher risk for decay. Problems with bite misalignments (overbite, underbite, and crossbite) can lead to problems like excessive wear, fractures, and clenching or grinding.

Many of our current patients started seeing us when they were children. Today, they are bringing their own children to us!

Prenatal Dental Care

The hormonal changes that accompany pregnancy affect your dental health, particularly your periodontal health. If you are considering becoming pregnant, schedule an appointment with your Flagship Dental dentist. We’ll review your health and plan any treatment that should be completed before you become pregnant.

If you are currently pregnant, continue with your routine exams and cleanings. It’s especially important to keep periodontal disease under control because research has linked this chronic infection with pregnancy complications, including early delivery and low birth weights.

Dental Care in the Senior Years

Senior Dentistry Longmeadow MAMany health conditions directly affect—and are affected by—your dental health. Scientists have found a connection between oral health and chronic systemic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory disease.

Certain medications also affect oral health. Some medications are known to cause dry mouth, which increases your risk for decay and periodontal disease. Your Flagship Dental dentist will review your health and medications with you so that we can pay attention to these important factors.

As you get older, your risk for developing oral cancer also increases significantly. We will screen for oral cancer at every appointment because catching this disease early is one of the keys to successful treatment.
